Primera’s Heavy Rotation : January 25th, 2011

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 25 January, 2011

1. Taio Cruz feat. Travie McCoy – Higher

If you like “Break Your Heart”, you’ll probably going to love this one. Coming from Taio Cruz compilation album, “The Rokstarr Collection”. Travie McCoy rap is a little annoying but overall, the song is destined to be another top chart for Mr. Cruz. Btw, there’s another version featuring Kylie Minogue here

2. Ke$ha – Blow

A definite dance club anthem with it’s heavy retro-progressive beat. It seriously doesn’t need to get remixed anymore.

3. Avril Lavigne – What the Hell

First single from Avril upcoming fourth studio album, “Goodbye Lullaby”, this one is a soul-less pop-rock-punk song (you know, typical Avril). Avril said that the album is going to be a very personal album, and this one is the least personal. I hope it’s true, cos this one is a very radio friendly track and doesn’t seem to have an emotion at all (but very enjoyable)

4. Cody Simpson – iYiY

If only the song is awful, I would call Cody Simpson a Justin Bieber’s copycat. But iYiY is a very addictive R n’ B track you should check. Coming from Australia, he’s as young and singing the same genre as Justin Bieber.

5. Unique feat. Charice – Wherever You Are

Charice’s voice simply amaze me. Her voice soars and this one song is no exceptions. If you’re hoping for a power ballad like “Note to God”, this is not what you’re looking for. This one is a catchy R n’ B duet track with Charice as a featured artist but she still manage to get spotlight.

6. Carrie Underwood – There’s a Place for Us

Thumbs up for The Chronicles of Narnia music director. They know how to pick a good soundtrack. After Alanis Morisette – Wunderkind, Switchfoot – This is Home and Regina Spektor – The Call, the soundtrack for the third installment of C.S. Lewsi classic is just as good. You just feel related to this full-orchestra ballad.

7. Adele – Rolling in the Deep

Adele shows her singing power with the first single from her Sophomore album, “21”. Sounds fragile and powerful at the same time, it’s more upbeat than “Chasing Pavement” but just as heartbreaking.

8. Auburn feat. Iyaz – La La La

Super catchy R n’ B song, you’ll be hooked from the first listen.

9. Christina Aguilera – Express

Soundtrack from the musical of the year (IMO at least), It’s a little repetitive but it’s Christina Aguilera we’re talking about. It’s gooooooooddd.

10. P!nk – Fuckin Perfect

Mid-tempo pop rock track, It’s one of four new track from P!nk Greatest Hits album and it’s totally deserve being placed in a Greatest Hits album. It’s a P!nk classic track, you know, something like “Just Like a Pill” or “Don’t Let Me Get Me”

11. The Script – Science & Faith

Non-single track from the album with the same title, it’s everything you hope from The Script.. Sing-able song, deep lyrics you can feel related to and a catchy tune.

12. B.o.B feat. Rivers Cuomo – Magic

Saying “Magic” repetitively has never been this fun. The chorus is just super good.

2010 Songs You’re So Sick of Hearing

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 24 January, 2011

Just like 2008 (and all the way to 2009) gives you nausea every time Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours is being played (again), 2010 had its own weapon to disgust you with catchy but overplayed songs. And here it is my list of songs that got you the same feeling. You know, the one that got you saying, “Oh, dear Lord.. Not this song again!”

The Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling

This song is like the anthem of dance club in 2010. And it’s not even good. The only acceptable way to enjoy this song is after the fourth glass of whatever alcoholic drinks you can find.

    Ke$ha – Tik Tok

The fairy godmother of auto-tune were a blast this year with her always drunk and trashy appearances. Too bad her voice is like Naomi Campbell. Beautiful on the record with her auto-tune make up, unbearable on the inside.

Any song by Taylor Swift (They’re all sounds the same anyway)

Her voice character is not my favorite, but i have to admit her “Fearless” album contains mostly good stuff. If only I’m having the options only hearing it once or twice a month.

    Lady Gaga – Bad Romance

This song is good. Not as catchy as the songs from the original The Fame album, but catchy and enjoyable nonetheless…. at least before you’re hearing it for the 1000th time.

Eminem – Love the Way You Lie

I think most of us agreed on one thing : The only part we love from this song is Rihanna’s chorus. But to get through all that crappy rap just to hear those four lines, it didn’t worth it. (Thank God the producer ask her to sing a sequel to the song, with an almost-to-none part to Eminem)

        Paramore – The Only Exceptions

It’s a sweet song. Until someone in your karaoke group think s/he can sing the song with an off pitch voice and a Rachel Berry-esque style (No offense to you, my dear karaoke friend. I really don’t mind with your perfect-pitched, golden voice, guys)

          Justin Bieber – Baby

How Bieber’s song work : write a line of lyrics, create a cute way to sing it and then sing the line over and over again fro the rest five minutes of the song. It works for me in “One Time”. And it’s still sounds cute in “One Less Lonely Girl”. “Baby” ? Not so much. Too many repetition. and his dance sequence sucks.

          Owl City – Fireflies

I don’t like the song, but the song is uber popular, sooo.. I’m trying to fall in love with it too (That’s just the wayI am). And just like a conditional love, i got bored after awhile. But the problem is, people’s love for the song doesn’t seems to go away.

Sinta & Jojo – Keong Racun

Every time I hear this song being played in my karaoke session, I have to ask forgiveness from God from being a fake pretend, dancing and singing along to the song i never liked. (except for the part “Sorry, sorry, sorry Jack!” I love that and only that)

            Melinda – Cinta Satu Malam

It’s even worse than Keong Racun. I’m wondering what’s on everyone’s mind. This is one of the ugliest, badly written, badly executed song I’ve ever heard my whole life.

Love it ? Hate it ? Any song that is out of my radar ?

              Primera’s Heavy Rotation : Apr 16th, 2010

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 16 April, 2010

My friend once ask me why i put songs i hate in these so called “heavy rotation” posts.. Been doing some thinking, and yes, i agree with him. I should only and only put good music here. So from now on, awesome music and awesome music only.

              1. Charice – Pyramid (feat. Iyaz)

Charice Pempengco, the popular Youtube artist from Philippines is releasing her first international album and this is her second U.S. first single, featuring Iyaz. Mid-tempo R n’ B song with a catchy tune, I just love it.

              2. Scouting For Girls – This Ain’t A Love Song

British music was totally fresh and different than US music scene, which dominated by R n’ B, Hip Hop and Country music.. (oops.. And Lady Gaga too..). They are indie pop band formed in 2005, with a frontman who sounds a little like Liam from Oasis. It’s a pop rock single with an orchestra (always love the combination).

              3. Carmit Bachar – Cream

Usually I’ll expect a song from estranged member from a very popular girls band to be awful (and it usually does) but this one is awesomely decent and totally listenable and better than any singles from Nicole Scherzinger. The song included in EP titled Something ‘Bout You, in which she’s being featured by Detroit Diamond (pictured above)

              4. Christina Aguilera – Not Myself Tonight

Probably the whole world already had Christina’s long awaited single, just want to let you know that in the CD Single there’s three versions of the single, Dirty, Clean and Instrumental. This one is the dirty version.

              5. Macy Gray – Beauty In The World

Finally ! A decent single from Macy Gray since I Try. Coming from the album, The Sellout, the single actually had Carmit Bachar singing as a background vocal (If I’m not mistaken)

              6. Ellie Goulding – Under The Sheets

Awesomeness.. If you love electro slash dance music like the rest of the world, you must be in love with this single. Ellie’s super unique voice plus disco beat and there you have it. Super song. This song is like no other if you bored with all songs in your library.

              7. Taio Cruz – Break Your Heart (feat. Ludacris)

It”s a chart topper in Billboard 100. So i think no need for explanation. Catchy Hip Hop song.

              8. Parachute  – The Mess I Made

This one is a non-single track from a Pop Rock band debut album, Losing Sleep. Kinda like it.

              9. Cheryl Cole – Parachute

The songs pretty old actually, released as a third single from Cheryl Cole album 3 Words, this one is an example of today’s perfect pop song.

              Primera’s Heavy Rotation : Feb 2nd, 2010

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 2 February, 2010

Newwwwww Heavy Rotation.  Starting from now, I’ll try to post the link too so you can (illegaly) download the song. Just so you know, the download link provided is for evaluational purpose only. If you like the artist, please buy the original album/single (Yeah, like anyone would listen.)

              1. Carrie Underwood – Temporary Home

Set as a second single from Carrie’s latest album Play On, this one is a beautiful pop country ballad song. Rating : 3

              2. Jedward – Under Pressure (Ice Ice baby) feat. Vanilla Ice

Jedward are John and Edward, two identical twin from the sixth season of X Factor. “Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)” is their debut single. The single is a mashup of “Under Pressure”, originally recorded in 1981 by Queen and David Bowie, and “Ice Ice Baby”, recorded in 1989 by Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice himself is featured on the track. Rating : 2

              3. Avril Lavigne – Alice (Underground)

Finally, a single from Avril Lavigne. Coming from Alice in Wonderland upcoming movie soundtrack,  it’s sounds really different from her previous work. It’s pretty dark to me, especially after the all fun in The Best Damn Thing. Rating : 2

              4. 3Oh!3 – Follow Me Down (feat. Neon Hitch)

Electronic, Dance and Synth Pop is in its height right now. And as long as it does, 3OH!3 will stay in chart as well. Another song from Alice in Wonderland Soundtrack, Almost Alice. This one actually sounds more familiar for my ears. Rating : 2,5

              5. Leighton Meester – Your Love’s A Drug

Our lovable Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl is trying her luck again after her first single, Somebody To Love did not doing really well on chart. This one sounds better actually. Love it. Rating : 3

              6. Justin Bieber – Baby (feat. Ludacris)

The YouTube artist has just sent out the first single from his 2nd album called My World 2.0 (Yawn… What a creative way to name your album). The song quite boring. Rating : 1,5

              Not To Be Missed :

              7. Craig David – One More Lie (Standing in The Shadows)

God, heavy dance track. Soo not Craig David. Rating : 1,5 Download

              8. Madonna – Across The Sky (feat. Justin Timberlake)

Produced by Timbaland and featuring Justin Timberlake. Great Combination. Pretty enjoyable. Rating: 3 Download

              9. Gorillaz – Stylo (feat. Moz Def and Bobby Womack)

Weird. I hate Gorillaz BTW, so you might wanna hear it first. Rating: 1 Download

              10. Taylor Swift – Today Was a Fairytale

Typical Taylor Swift song. Pop country song with a catchy tune. Rating: 3 Download

              11. Boyzone – Gave It All Away

Calm, boyband-ish song. Like it. Rating : 3 Download

              12. The Fray – Syndicate

Typical The Fray song. Good unless you’re bored with such kind of song. Rating: 2,5 Download

              13. Chipmunk – Look for Me

Having a little similiar composition with  I Gotta Feeling. But sounds much better. Rating: 2,5 Download

              Primera’s Heavy Rotation : Jan 18th, 2010

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 18 January, 2010

Another music review.. Many2 credit to my great friend, Ren Adam,  for the music references. I think he’s one of few people who give big influence on my music taste. Sorry for the short descriptions, not really in the mood for long writing.

              1. Kat Deluna – Push Push (feat. Akon)

Nice song, kinda remind me of “Calling You”. Produced and featuring Akon, It’s a very catchy song, from the very first minute till the end. It’s the first official single for Kat DeLuna’s second album, Inside Out which will be available later this year.

              Rating : # # #

              2. Ke$ha – Blah Blah Blah (feat. 3OH!3)

It hasn’t been officially named as the second single but it totally should be. Hot dance track. and the 3OH!3 electronic influence in the song helped too.

              Rating : # # #

              3. Miike Snow – Cult Logic

This Swedish group was formed in 2007 but came tomainstream music only few months back. The airing of their “Animal” song on one of  Gossip Girl’s episode helped them to gain recognition. It’s electronic. Like everything else nowadays.

              Rating : # #

              4. Story of The Year – I’m Alive

I’m Alive is the first official single from Story Of The Year’s latest album, The Constant. Just like any other Story of The Year to me (I don’t really follow these guys), but I like it.

              Rating : # # #

              5. Jewel – Stay Here Forever

Taken from Valentine’s Day OST, which featured practically starring everyone in Hollywood, this song is a cheer and catchy country pop song. It stuck in your mind easily. The OST itself featuring many great track from known artist such as Taylor Swift, Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Maroon 5, etc.

              Rating : # # #

              6. Kevin Rudolf – I Made It (feat. Lil’ Wayne, Jay Sean, Birdman)

I Made it is the newest single from Kevin Rudolf. Featuring Lil’ Wayne, Jay Sean and Birdman made the song sound unique, with a blend of Hip Hop, R n B, Rap, Rock and a little Synth. Good song. Catchy.

              Rating : # # #

              7. Lady Gaga – Telephone (feat. Beyonce)

Planned to be the second single from The Fame Monster, the song originally proposed for Britney Spears’ Circus, but it got rejected. Your loss, Britney, it’s a great song. Me myself practically everything comin’ from Lady Gaga, and this one is no exceptions.

              Rating : # # #

Not to be Missed : Colbie Caillat – I Never Told You (pop ballad), MoZella – More of You (Duffy-ish song, but a little more mainstream), Orianthi – God Only Knows (sounds a lot like Michelle Branch. this one a ballad pop-rock) , Jason Mraz – Kickin’ With You (very Jason Mraz, from OST When In Rome), Alicia Keys – Put It in a Love Song (feat. Beyonce) (Next single from Alicia, her type of song)

              Primera’s Heavy Rotation : Dec 29th, 2009

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 29 December, 2009

It’s only been two weeks since my last music review and i kinda got nothing to do at work lately (it’s the end of year.. holiday, people, holiday..) So i decided to run a new heavy rotations (Usually I’ll only be doing a once a month music review).  Anyway, here it is singles you should be watching.. some of them are old news (and by old i mean been released about a month ago), or not released at all.

              1. Leona Lewis – I Got You

How do you tell a song is Leona’s  ? A falsetto and Tedder-esque drum beat. Typical, i know, but this one is a very good typical . It should be the first single instead of Happy. Mid tempo pop song with a nice vocal.

              Rating : # # #

              2. Owl City – Hot Air Balloon

Hot Air Balloon is a track included in Deluxe Edition of Owl City’s sophomore album, Ocean Eyes. It’s a very nice summer song, just like the other track in his album (Owl City is a one man band, like Secondhand Serenade, Five For Fighting and The Rocket Summer). You should check out this hot track.

              Rating : # # #

              3. Katharine McPhee – How

How is the fourth promotional singles for her Unbroken album (will be released in 2010). Nothing special about the song, in fact it was boring. I just mention it to fill empty spaces. And I haven’t had any singles that I gave ratings like below :

              Rating : #

              4. Timbaland – If We Ever Meet Again (feat. Katy Perry)

This is the fourth singles from Timbaland’s-much-anticipated-but-turns-out-disappointing-Shock-Value-II album. I mean there’s so many big names in the album and the best it could do was spawning 3 singles in just 3 months, only to have #31 spot as its highest. This one is just as ‘average’ as the others. The only good thing here is Katy Perry’s sexy voice.

              Rating : # #

              5. Boyz II Men – I Can’t Make You Love Me

Yeah, you read it right. Boyz II Men will be releasing new album called LOVE (..yawn..) in 2010. Here’s a promotional single which is a cover version from Bonnie Raitt ( no idea who he/she is..). Its a boring love song and I’m so not into love now (yeah, I know its called oversharing)

              Rating : # #

              6. Paulini – Scarless

Nice song. Just download the song. Especially if you’re into mid tempo R n’ B song.

              Rating : # #

Honorable Mentions : Joey McIntyre – Here We Go Again, Leona Lewis – I See You, Jason Derulo – Sky’s The Limit, Ne-Yo – Never Knew I Needed (feat. Cassandra Steen), Selena And The Scene – Naturally, Mariah Carey – H.A.T.E.U

              Primera’s Heavy Rotation : Dec 17th, 2009

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 17 December, 2009

Singles (and probably albums) review from me, revived !

I decided to use dates instead of numbers to mark my post, since its kinda hard to remember the last number you used for posting.

For starter, i let you guys know that i’m into mainstream music, so mostly I’m reviewing pop music with an edge of R n’ B, Rock, Synth/Electronic, Folk, Country, and anything Top 40. I kinda addicted to catchy R n’ B songs right now, but my music taste changes as often as my mood swings, and it means a lot of swings.

              So, let the review begin..

              1. Stan Walker – Black Box

Stan Walker is a winner of Australian Idol seventh season, he got nice loud voice, and his debut single, Black Box is a really catchy R n’ B song. Highly recommended. I’m sure you’ll be playing’ it over and over for at least a week before turning to another catchy R n’ B song.

              Rating : # # #

              2. Usher – Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)

After his successful Confessions (2004) and Here I Stand (2008), he attempt to reign again with another album set to be released in 2010 titled Raymond vs. Raymond (2010) . Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home) is his first official single, its a mid-tempo R n’ B song, very nice song.

              Rating : # # #

              3. Guy Sebastian – Art of Love (feat. Jordin Sparks)

Second single from Guy Sebastian latest album (the fifth, BTW), its featuring Jordin Sparks. Its a typical perfect pop song which sounds a lot like Jordin Sparks’ Battlefield to me. Both had a similiar drum beat. But still nice to hear if you’re so into pop music and Idol thingy.

              Rating : # # #

              4. Jason Derulo – In My Head

New R n’ B sensation. Its his second single. Nice song, nice voice, nothing special though. If you’re into something like Usher or The Dream, he’s one of them.

              Rating : # # #

              5. Heidi Montag – Superficial

Another shameless attempts from Heidi Montag to stay famous, she’s releasing a single which lyrics, if concluded, are saying : People say I’m superficial because they jealous of me, I’m rich and famous. (Not gonna say anything on this one). But it’s a pretty good song though.

              Rating : # #

              6. Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind Part 2 (Broken Down)

If you can’t stand hearing Jay-Z’s rap but love the Empire State of Mind song, here’s one alternative for you. The chorus is the same from the duet version, but with a slow tempo and the rap part is totally gone. I like this version better.

              Rating : # # #

              7. Chamillionaire – Good Morning

Good Morning is the first official single off of Chamillionaire’s third album, Venom. Its a rap song with a sweet chorus, make you want to sing along (only on the chorus part though).

              Rating : # #

              8. Adam Lambert – Whatya Want From Me

Second single from Adam Lambert, the song is written by P!nk, Max Martin and Shellback. And he sounds like p!nk in this song. Nice pop-rock song.

              Rating : # # #

Also not to be missed : Tokio Hotel – Automatic, Shontelle – Licky, Alexandra Burke – Broken Heels, Sade – Soldier of Love

I just heard songs from Utada’s newest attempt to conquer US Music Industry. One of the songs that caught my attention is “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence – FYI”

Because the piano intro (which everybody loves so much at Utada blog) is really similiar with Anggun’s Seize The Moment. I don’t know why..

And i don’t know which side to support, (not necessarily too, hehe..)

Okitya, immediately after hearing Utada’s version easily choose to support Anggun, as he can’t stand hearing japanese songs (Yeah, rite..just like i can’t stand hear you singing Doel Sumbang..)

              Awkward..How is it happen?curious..

              Wild Hope

Posted in Music by mibnufajar on 27 January, 2009

I don’t really into writing something at the moment but..

I think I need to post something regularly to make this blog lively..

Anyway, I  Just Had my 22nd birthday last sunday, and it was fun..not “really fun”..it was just “average fun”, hehe..But hoping a “really fun” birthday is not the reason why i named this post Wild Hope, thought i might want it deep down (hehe)..

I named this post “Wild Hope” cos i’ve been listening to Mandy Moore songs from her last album, which actually was out about May last year (Huuuu..Late.., I Know)..But I’ve never heard of it since so little publication we heard in Indonesia about this album (or is it only me ?)

Anyway, the songs are different from her previous work, this one sounds more folk and calming..reminds me of Jewel or Ingrid Michaelson..

I think its great song to listen while you’re driving (I only can imagining it, since i don’t know how to drive, hehehe..)

My favorite track is “All Good Things” and “Wild Hope”..
